Chessie & Me! has several new things. Here are pics of a few, the rest are tucked onto our Chessie & Me pages.
  • Quaker House Token -- This is Linda's small kit for this season, stitched on Zweigart's 36ct Cedar Linen. She has motifs stitched over one and two worked with Gloriana hand-dyed silks of Antique Black, Chocolate, Mocha and Old Gold. A charming little cushion, it finishes just 3 x 4-1/2 inches in size. (blocks are all different sizes, you might lose a tree or two on the sides! The one pictures has 9 holes.) Stitched with Weeks flosses on 32ct Weeks Beige Linen the wool featured in the finishing is Week's Cinnabar Houndstooth pattern. Any of the 4 wool finishes -- herringbone, houndstooth, glen plaid or solid will look good on the finished pieces -- you don't see enough of the pattern to matter... and if you aren't a pink gal... go green! (we can help choose wools for you.) Anyway, main sampler finishes approx 2-1/2 x 7 (a long skinny cushion size), the initial square measures 2 x 2-1/2 and the fib is under 2 inches in size! A charming set, with a neat finishing idea!
  • Home Safe to Me -- A bitty seaside-inspired needlebook and fob set, you are making a Pyn Keep to match as well. Everything is stitched on 36ct (you can choose anything you want), and each piece is stitched on both sides. The Needlebook finishes about 4-1/2 x 9, -- wool pages inside -- it features Linda's trademark design of Satin Stitches mixed in everywhere, Smyrnas as well, and some motifs over one. Her things always have lots of pretty texture because of the stitches mixed in. So... if you don't want the set of smalls, this could simply be a 4-1/2 inch square cushion. The matching scissor fob is under 2 inches -- whale on one side, tall ship on the other. The Pyn Keep measures just 2 x 2 -- mermaid on one side, anchors on the other. Stitched with a combo of Weeks and Gentle Art flosses -- gorgeous colors!

Eyelash Sizzle from Lady Dot Eyelash Snow from Lady Dot Eyelash Trim from Lady Dot Creates
We have a new style of hand-dyed trim by Lady Dot Creates -- it's 100% cotton, and looks like a fern frond! It's Eyelash -- a thin strand with little 1/4 inch long 'frizzies' coming out from it.
I think because it's thin, it'll be best on smaller cushions, it'd be cute as 'grass' beneath stitched bunnies and in little flower gardens. (Imagine a sewing case... you open the inside to see a tiny stitched garden, and here is that trim -- right in the needlework!)
I think you could make darling rabbit tails -- use several strands like a tassel fringe.

Dyed to match Lady Dot's existing colors, we have six of her most popular colors so far. Algae is a soft green, Licorice - a dark gray to soft black, Sizzle - that gorgeous rich red, Snow - white. Then we have Vanilla which is a cream and finally Vintage which is ivory and taupe and simply goes with everything!!!!!!!! Packaged in 9 yard lengths.

Long and skinny, it's perfect to hang in that narrow spot on your walls between two doors! Letters down one side, and motifs down the other, pins, scissors, hoops and spools.

It includes Classic Colorworks complete skeins of Antique Lace, Calico Kitty, Cocoa Bean, Pebble Beach and Weeping Willow hand-dyed cotton flosses. (You'll need bits of DMC 422 and 951 to stitch.) Includes chart and Classic flosses. Fabric available separately.

New Glass Beaded Pin Cushions from Reflets de Soie
Oh my gosh, these are some of my very, very favorite things in the shop right now... GORGEOUS floral pin cushions (or sewing bag fronts) stitched on 35ct that are ONLY tiny glass beads and NO Cross Stitches! Everything you see are the minute French glass beads!!!! Stitched right from a regular chart, you use only a strand of white floss and stitch a half stitch over two on 35ct... putting on a bead instead of using a color of floss. Kind of like miniature oriental rugs... you are creating these beautiful patterns from a chart simply with glistening glass beads. Really 18ct in size, I suppose you could stitch these in floss... but you'd have to make your own color conversions from the beads.

Offered in chart format, the beads are pre-sorted for you. choose 35 or 36ct linen, frame them or make them into small cushions! We have stiff linens or softer ones... if you have a preference, let us know... we have shop models stitched on both and looks are not affected by fabric softness. It would only be that stiffer might be easier for you to work on.
  • Tresor d'Octavie -- 61 x 89 Stitches (approx 3 x 5), this kit comes with the blue silk ribbon for finishing!!! Roses, green and golds.
  • Vitrail -- 83 x 83 Stitches (less than 5 x 5) Stunning aquas and roses, with gold accents. There is a butterfly charm on there.. it is NOT included in the kit... just a design temptation!
  • Myosotis -- ONLY 49 x 33 -- A BEGINNER SIZE -- this finishes under 3 x 2! Gorgeous deep blues, lavenders and golds... this is just a bitty one that you can TRY THESE with!
  • Tresor d' Apolline -- 53 x 99 Stitches (approx 3 x 5) this one has a white beaded background and features a rose swirl among greenery.
  • Le bal d' Iseult -- 102 x 103 -- This is bouquet of roses! A very classic, antique design, again a creamy white background with the antique roses and leaves all beaded. Exquisite for a sewing case cover or scissor case!

New Designs from The Drawn Thread
New Drawn Thread is on the way to us!!! Cynthia is releasing fun, wintery designs!!!
All are presented as charts WITH the silks and embellishments for now. When our first shipment of charts WITH silks sells out, our remaining will be charts with embellishments.
  • Welcome Winter -- Companions autumn, stitch this on anything neutral for that little snowman to POP! Finishing approx 13-1/2 x 2 on 32ct, it uses Needlepoint Inc and Dinky Dyes silk, is embellished with 4mm black buttons and has a few specialty stitches. Think about stitching some of the motifs without the letters if you want! Chart, silks and embellishments.
  • Snow Day -- A soft and dusty Stoney Point Blue linen is the background for all these snowmen playing in the falling snow. One of them is skiing... and there are birds skating inside the letter W! finishing aprox 9 x 4, it's the same size as Cynthia's seasonal ABC samplers, and it would make a cute standing brick-shaped block! chart, silks, embellishments.
  • Stars -- On a dark 32ct, this uses Dinky Dyes, Needlepoint Inc and Thread Gatherer silks and is embellished with small tan buttons amidst all the special stitches. The verse is from a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and the pattern inlcudes charts for stitching either as a sampler (with the last part of the verse at the bottom) or the entire verse. Pretty denims, brick reds, butter and cream colors... part of the design charm are all the tiny stars and then leaves evenly -- but randomly -- scattered everywhere! Chart, silks and embellishments.

Anyway, special stitches, lots of luscious threads in the embellishment pack, choose just about any light blue fabric to stitch this onto... the whole series has been colorful, full of texture, and charming!

This is the cutest thing from Bareroots! NOT Cross Stitch at all -- you have to have a sewing machine or a really good friend with one to make this! Presented as a kit of the pattern along with all the felts and canvas, wooden spool, flosses and pearl cottons, ticking and even the super-heavy plastic for the little window... you will need a few pins and some metal from a tape measure (for the opener on the pouch.)

You'll construct the 10 x 6 x 2 Notions pouch out of the heavy muslin canvas-y fabric, adding the plastic window, lining it with ticking, and garnishing with the primitive-stitched words and tiny pink felt flowers. The top pulls apart -- reinforced with those tape measure pieces inside. Then, there is a Needle and Floss Roll (4 x 21) -- made of everything that matches the pouch, and finally the 2-inch wooden spool with a matching top pin cushion tuffet 2-1/2 inch square! (you can even make little felt-trimmed pins for it!) A super-cute set... it just caught my eye!

Spring 2017 Button & bead Kits from Mill Hill
The new kits for this year are HERE! Always favorites... these come as complete kits of design, 14ct perforated paper, tons of flosses and millions of Mill Hill glass seed beads, and a ceramic button. Finishing approx 5 x 5... you can use that paper in the kit... but we LOVE to stitch these on either 14ct Aida or 28ct Linen, so we can make them into little pillows to hang from your kitchen cabinet knobs (and other little places like that.)

Colors are always gorgeous with these... you can't go wrong for the value of these Mill Hill kits... we've been treated to Winter & Christmas, Autumn & Halloween, Spring & Summer designs for over 25 years now!!! I love the Carrot Patch, the goldfinch goes with last year's hummingbird and monarch, Fabric Shoppe is another in the springtime village of businesses (tea room, haberdashery, pet shop... there are a lot of these NOT Christmas), and Hydrangea is so pretty. My favorite, however, is LAUNDRY. How cute is that? Every laundry room needs this! But isn't it funny... do they even make soap powder in a BOX anymore? Nobody under the age of 30 irons anymore! My grandma had a washer like this... I remember the wringer... I thought her arm would go through there!

It's a classic pattern that a lot of different scissor manufacturers have used, while you probably haven't seen as many Rabbits around! (Those are the stainless ones.) Serpentines have a sharper point, the Rabbits -- not so much. Both cut nicely, they're pretty, and would be perfect in a pretty sewing case or on a neat fob. Not too expensive, they are GREAT as a nice, basic embroidery scissor... WAY TOO nice to let the *home handyman* near!!!

Kitty Doodles by Amy Lee Weeks For Mill Hill! - click for more
Kitty Doodles by Amy Lee Weeks for Mill Hill
What a delightful collection of simple black-line doodles from Amy Lee Weeks! The people at Mill Hill have converted them to Cross Stitch on 18ct white Aida, and embellished with a few glass beads here and there. Design sizes finishing approx 5 x 7, each is stitched with 99% DMC black floss and accented with simple striking colors in the design borders.

SO DARN CUTE... they are presented as complete kits of the chart, fabric, beads and flosses. Frames are offered separately. These ARE done on aida -- don't get hung up on that -- if you have a swatch of something else white in your stash, use it. The designs are darling, and will WAY overshadow the fabric you stitch them on! I LOVE the one that says *Don't stress me out!*

Roma's Stocking - The Shepherd's Bush Annual Christmas Stocking!
She's here for 2016... not much time to stitch her for this year... but that's OK! Roma has lovely robe of flowers over a dress with sheep along it's hem. Her flag reads REJOICE above her head, and she has on the cutest little raspberry boots!

Along with DMC #5 Pearl Cottons, this year's uses 8 different shades of Weeks # as well... we have them all gathered and ready to go! Official charm packs too! Presented as a leaflet, Roma is the 25th Annual Stocking design!
Leaves from Nikyscreations Quilt of the Season - Halloween from Nikyscreations Animal Farm from Nikyscreations
A trio of cute new designs from Nikyscreations
  • Leaves - A 7 x 8 piece stitched with DMC floss, the house in the center has a filled-in background -- making it a little picture in the center of the busy birds and vines surrounding it. What makes it fun are the wool acorn cut-outs Niky has added to the left side as part of her finishing treatment. Super-simple, yet they add texture and an additional focal point. Leaves is shown finished as a pocket... but it'd be cute as a pin cushion too -- and you could do more acorns on the back if you wanted to.
  • Quilt of the Season - Halloween - A pair of witchy friends boiling something in the pic -- maybe they are getting ready to tea dye the kitty quilt hanging above! Tiny kitties walking around their feet -- I think they are looking for the mice hidden on her dress! 6 x 7 On 32ct, DMC floss, just a fun little thing -- the model pic has rayon ribbon scrunched all around the edges for a disheveled look!
  • Animal Farm - Cats, rabbits, a sheep, pig and chicken... this is actually quite a cute medley of animals. Everyone has something else in their square -- bunny with carrots, sheep with bees, pig with bird, and the spotted cat with the run-away mouse! Measuring a generous 7 x 10 on 28ct, the chart calls for regular DMC... soft colors of 422, 355, 3790, 844, 842, 301, 420, 522, 840, 613, and 3859.

Yummy New Velveteen Finishing Fabric from Dames of the Needle Yummy New Velveteen Finishing Fabric from Dames of the Needle
We have 5 new colors of this dreamy backing fabric for your stitching projects. By Dames of the Needle, it is hand-dyed velveteen -- beautifully and softly dyed -- the overall feel of the fabric is heavy compared to cotton finishing materials. We have torn it into fat 1/8 yard cuts -- approx 10 x 17 in size -- so enough for a larger pillow or plenty for lots of smaller sewing case linings, pin cushion backings, box and tray liners, even the bottoms of pretty wooden bases and boxes.

VERY pretty, the new colors (shown from left to right) are Red Begonia, Dried Acorn, Dried Wine, Smashing Jack and Puff's Magic. Get 'em and even split these cuts with friends in your stitch group -- little pin cushions don't need much!

New Lizzie*Kate
Linda has been busy working on Thanksgiving and Christmas designs for us, and I think you'll really enjoy her new things!
  • Peppermint and Snowy Sleds -- MORE little sled designs!!! So darn cute, these fit our little 4-inch Foxwood Crossings wooden sled ornaments. The sleds come ready made ($4.50 each) -- paint them if you want, but they don't need that. Then, add your bit of stitching to the sled bed... using 14/28ct fabric or 14ct perforated paper. Just like Sled Dudes and Night Before Christmas Sleds, these 6 designs all follow the same color scheme -- so now they are a set of 12! Presented in Snippet small card format, there are tiny embellishments for each included! (check out our baker's dozen on the sleds!)
  • Wise Men Still Seek Him -- The neat verse, the royal crowns for a king, angels and Baby Jesus -- this is a sweet reminder of the Reason for the Season! Offered as the small card.

  • A Little Thankful from Lizzie Kate Come Let Us Adore Him from Lizzie Kate November & December from Lizzie Kate
  • A Little Thankful -- Here's Linda's *Little* kit for Thanksgiving... she has included the three ships with pal 'Chris C' on board!!! Kit includes the amber linen, and antiqued gold acorn charm and a few gold beads. Finishes about 4 x 4 -- like all the other *Little* kits in her series.
  • Come Let Us Adore Him -- A new Inspirational design... Come Let Us adore Him, Christ the Lord. Presented as the chart with 30ct natural linen and three snowflake buttons... you get a bonus chart to stitch as well!
  • November & December -- These little guys fill out the year of Calendar Double flips -- we have all the rest on the set as well. Linda does remind us that we have the same 12 months every year, so if you didn't get these done this year, there's always NEXT! Nov and Dec also includes antique squirrel and heart charms. Instructions to combine all 12 together can be found on LK's website, too.

Sandra Sullivan continues her decades-long collection of small stitched ornaments... all are offered as charts and stitched with assorted hand-dyed flosses and DMC cottons. Generally 3 x 3 and worked on 30ct linens... these look good on most any neutral color -- just not white!

Avery is her grandson... his mom is collecting vintage airplanes to decorate his room... so Grandma made him an ornament with a vintage Santa in an old plane! Always cute... and nice on your tree.

Thankful from Lone Elm Lane - click for more Thankful from Lone Elm Lane
Lone Elm Lane has a cute new pin cushion pattern that finishes just under 3-1/2 inches in size. Just 6 colors of hand-dyeds on a bit of neutral 16 aida or 32ct's just a nice seasonal something to have in your growing bowl of stitched lovelys.

NOW... check out her new Sewing Clamp Box in the pic! That is a new finishing piece, patterned after antique clamp boxes. The top has a 1-inch deep recessed area to frame your needlework. It's really a petite 4 x 4 x 4 box -- complete with a little pulling out drawer (can you see the knob down there in the pic?) THEN, the whole thing clamps to the edge of a table with a cool screwing pole on the bottom -- SUPER CHARMING!

Our first shipment of the boxes came in Stephanie's antiqued white finish. NOW, to muddy the waters... she'll make that awesome box in ANY of her 12 colors! (So those will be special order, 'cause I can't keep some of them all -- all the time! The 8-ish week wait will be worth it for you though, and you'll have to type your color choice into the comments box as you finish up your order if you want something other than the white!)

A Year at Hawk Run Hollow from Carriage House Samplings - click to see more A Year at Hawk Run Hollow
from Carriage House
Carriage House's ninth in the Hawk Run Hollow Series -- this joins Houses, Village, Shores, Christmas, Autumn, Farms, Spring and Map of HRH! This design is made up of 12 -- 92 x 92 stitch count blocks -- each a tribute to it's month of the year.

Charted for DMC or silks, you CAN split all of these up and make them into individual pillows to fill that big bowl of yours. We see this one as perkier -- like Spring at HRH... a little more colorful than some of the order offerings. Presented as a chart -- it's a gotta-have -- the blocks are charming!

Mini Bee Needle Minder from Kelmscott Beeskep Vintage Postcard Threadkeep from Kelmscott Mermaid Tail Threadkeep from Kelmscott
New Treats from Kelmscott Designs
A lovely collection of needlework trinkets and gadgets, these all make nice stitcher gifts, they are fun to use, and look wonderful tucked into cases, keeps and shadow box frames.
  • Mini Bee Needle Minder -- Isn't this a pretty thing? Kelmscott's black resin sets off her pretty bumblebee... the whole thing measures just 1-1/4 inches from side to side. Needle Minders aren't just for needles either -- they are pretty magnets for your filing cabinet or even the good old-fashioned refrigerator door!
  • Beeskep Vintage Postcard Threadkeep -- A charming sepia-tone, old fashioned picture on this little board that measures a bit over 2 x 3-1/2, it features 6 holes to attach your working threads.
  • Mermaid Tail Threadkeep -- This is SO CUTE! Another thread keep, just over 4 inches, -- same kind of thing as the vintage beeskep. This one would be incredible stored inside of a nautical sewing case, or cool perched beside a seaside pin cushion!!! The design is not painted or enameled on the wood... I think it's probably a laminated paper image, but like the rest of these, it is absolutely and perfectly transferred onto the wood -- and the colors in this charming tail are gorgeous!

Charcoal Mittens from Rachels of Greenfield - click to see more Charcoal Mittens from Rachel's of Greenfield
Oh we love the felt ornament kits we carry by Rachel's of Greenfield! Primitive stitched felt ornaments... this is the 8th set that contains 6 designs... so there are TONS to choose from! Small 3 x 3-ish old-fashioned felt pieces, all you do is cut the shapes from the included wool, blanket stitch them together, and beautiful little creations are the result.

Remember the wool ornaments that used to hang on your family Christmas Tree? Here they are (minus the plastic sequins!) Gold string to hang them, full-sized cutting templates and all the correct sizes and colors of the wools, and flosses to add the small embroidery touches, these complete kits are good to go!

VERY cute, this new set features a charcoal gray background on mittens with red cuffs. They join *Warm Hands* (more mittens), *Warm Feet* -- which are mini-stockings, *Snow Folks* --which are snowmen (even a snow kitty and a snow puppy!) and the set of gift bag ornaments!

Several Luscious Scissor Arrivals by WASA of Solingen, Germany
Several Luscious Scissor Arrivals by WASA of Solingen, Germany What an exquisite treat we have in the shop!!! From the Solingen Valley of Germany, WASA is world-famous top-quality cutlery manufacturer -- a compliment to and competitor of DOVO! We have some new styles that we used to carry (but haven't been able to get for almost 10 years!) and some pretty new offerings!

Stainless steel, hand-forged, gold plating decoration, razor-sharp blades and tips, smooth and 'buttery' cutting action... just like our DOVO embroidery scissors... WASA delivers the excellence of German artistry you will LOVE! Each has the WASA name and Solingen embossed into the blades. Choose our Regular-sized leather sheaths for these -- not the Preemie/small size... the double-sized are OK... but a little large.
  • SN53 Cross -- 3-1/2 Inches in length, these are from an antique mold. The handles come together to make a little cross shaped opening between them... and the little beading around the scissor edges make them even prettier. Light Gold plating on the handles, they don't appear to be as 'gold' in color as some of the rest. Perfect, precise, sharp little 1-1/8 inch blades.
  • SN52 Serpentine -- 3-1/2 Inches in length, another classic museum design, these are lovely, filigreed, delicate to hold and use -- just a treat! Stainless, with gold plating on the handles, they feel a little lighter in weight than the Cross Scissors -- blades are the same size though.
  • SN50 Victorian Heart -- 3-3/4 Inch in overall length -- you'll recognize this style. Gingher used to have these in their 18th Century Line -- it is a classic embroidery scissor style that is a perennial favorite. (Probably the most recognized after Stork Scissors.) Beautiful gold on the curved handles... always a good choice.
  • SN51 Flattened Victorian Heart -- Another 3-3/4 Inch style -- I think these look like the Victorian pair, just a little flattened! The finger holes turn out to be JUST A TEENY bit larger than the Victorian, so they turn out to be a little more than 1/4 an inch wider, and they feel *really good!* The same pretty gold plating on the graceful handles.
Large Buckingham Large Buckingham
Wow... we have NEVER had this style -- our favorite Buckingham in this 5-5/8 inch style!!!! What a gorgeous pair of scissors!!!!!! The same pretty swirls --gold plated -- in the handles, the blades are razor-sharp and measure approx 2-1/4 inches long.

Very heavy and substantial feeling, they would be spectacular in a special sewing case. WASA and Solingen is embossed into the blades. Choose our Double Leather Sheath to protect this size.

Lighted Needle Threader - click for more
Lighted Needle Threader
Well, if this isn't the coolest little thing! It is a wire needle threader -- with a protective snap-off cover over the wire -- that is attached to an LED light. Remove the plastic protective cover, turn on the switch for the light (it stays lit and you don't have to keep holding it at a strange angle to keep the little light on) The light IS AIMED at the wire threader -- so the eye of your needle is illuminated! You actually have a chance to SEE the hole in the needle to thread it!!!!!

We laughed when we saw this at Market, but I tried it right there in the aisle -- I had my needles and scissors with me... so this was tested before purchasing! It is just about 1-1/2 inches in total lenght, and has a hole so you can attach it to a cord or key ring. We think this is the ultimate baby-sized gadget!!!! What a fun thing to get all your friends -- and it's affordable, too!

Wooden Thread Boards from The Primitive Hare
We have a delightful selection of 8 different thread boards that have been lovingly handmade in Italy by The Primitive Hare!!! Here are three... but make sure to click the pic to see the rest! Something fun to tuck into a cool sewing case or sewing basket, each of these is a cut-out that has been painted (on both sides) in some way, and then distressed (on both sides).

About 1/4 an inch thick (they're much more substantial than your average thread board!), the whitewashed Mermaid measures 3 x 8-ish. The whitewashed Rocking Horse is about 4 x 5, and the whitewashed Sea Horse is about 3 x 5-1/2. Hand-Painted Santa's Sleigh Snowglobe IS about 4-1/2 x 5 and Hand-Painted Queen Bee is about 3-1/2 x 5. Tie a few threads through the holes, and JUST ENJOY having these!!!

Vintage Stitching Treasury by Suzanne McNeill - click to see more Vintage Stitching Treasury by Suzanne McNeill
This 224-page book brings you hundreds (over 400) of patterns that have appeared on vintage linens since the late 1880's. After the lessons about which kind of artwork was popular in each of the decades, there is more history about color... then instructions about tea-dying and crayon tinting. I had not really realized the differences in the artwork till I studied this. Evidently the 1920s saw the birth of assigning household tasks to the different days of the week -- laundry, shopping ironing. Art Deco designs appeared in the 30's. Girls fighting the wind to hang laundry was 'the thing' in the 40's! This book is full of absolutely CHARMING artwork you can use for embroidery on towels, tablecloths, aprons... you name it.

The introduction talks about 'everyone who is lucky enough to have a small collection of old linens embroidered by mothers or grandmothers feeling the hands reaching across the years.' The pages feature actual sized patterns. You will have to trace to transfer and so can enlarge or shrink if you need to change sizes. (Unfortunately, these are not iron-on transfers.) We decided today, that these pictures would all make fun COLORING BOOK pictures as well! In keeping with the coloring book craze right now... here is another way to enjoy these antique, retro and utterly charming designs!
