Spring Mouse in a House
from Just Nan
A new 4-Seasons Set of houses with little mice hiding inside... I can't believe how CUTE this is!!!!! 4 Houses in 2017, each will be the same size and shape but stitched on different linens. Each house has it's own resident MOUSE! Spring is built from 4 lined triangles attached to a square base, Pretty ribbons tie the sides together. Nan describes her little house: "Vines and rosy beads climb the walls of the house and flowers bloom in the yard, The lavender front door nestles between tulips. Blossoms above the door include an amethyst glass flower bead. On the side of the house, pansies bloom under one window box and daffodils dance under the other. The backyard has a flowering tree crowned with a nest of 2 robins stitched over 1.
Check out the little mouse on one of the window tops! Next, open your little house to reveal deep purple felt walls surrounding an elegant floral rug of stitching. (Beneath that rug ANOTHER little stitched mouse scurries around the floors!) Those felt walls can hold spare needles for you. Spring House is stitched with DMC on Week's 32ct 'Linen' linen and finishes approx 2-3/4 inches in size. Miss Pansy Mouse -- stitched on 32ct Lilac linen lives in this house. Wearing spring flowers and a pink hat, she fits right into her little house! Presented as the 12-page leaflet with felts, beads, ribbons, bases, and embellishments, we have the linen separately.
*WE ARE BEGINNING AN AUTO FOR THIS SET OF HOUSES. AUTO-SHIPS WILL INCLUDE THE LEAFLET AND LINENS FOR HOUSE AND MOUSE!

Refreshingly different in subject matter... and kind of fun to make for your favorite handy-person or fishing buddy!!!!
Sampler Time from Needlework Press

Cute as can be, you COULD find a real clock to frame this into.. but the fake ones are cute too. The hands are stitched... we also have some clock hands embellishments, black on front and white on back -- $4 a set!
2017 Collector's Heart from Heart in Hand
Heart in Hand's Cecelia Turner has another darling heart and love design to add to her annual collection. (We have quite a few of the previous) *Grow old along with me* is a classic!
Presented as the small chart with 32ct Country Vintage Mocha Linen cut, a few glass beads and wooden heart button embellishment, it calls for only 5 flosses that you can gather from your stash. Finishing just about 3 x 3, you can add a bit of personalization if you want (the linen cut in here is 9 x 9, so there is plenty of room). Makes a REALLY NICE, not-fussy remembrance gift. Something small for an anniversary or Valentine's Day... just a smidge of your stitching love!
Snowscapes and Snowsqualls
from Heart in Hand
Here is the bonus design that comes with Heart in Hand's 3-part Snowscape design! *There's no business like snow business* is the middle line of a main design -- but not much to write home about! THIS little sampler is tucked into this part two chart! It measures under 3 x 3 in size, so will make a cute pin cushion or mini-pillow as in the pic.
To make the entire picture that is featured in the chart, you will need parts one and three as well. Part two offers you the verse, and this cute little cushion pattern.
Spread Your Wings for Spring!... Our February 2017 Secret Needle Night Kit
Oh... we're trying to make a break from bleak wintery grays... doesn't this just make you take a refreshing breath, and bring a smile? Our Spring butterfly is mostly Pearl Cotton and Fyre Werks, and she is garnished with Gold Memory Thread antennae and frosty Mill Hill beads.
Finishing approx 4 x 4-1/2, your complete kit contains the 18ct linen, threads and beads. Mona's optional finishing kit provides the backing boards and fabrics, the wired ribbon bow and her twisted cord edging. It'll assemble our 'Burst of Spring' into a Quick 'n Easy Easel Stand-Up!
Polar Opposites by Debbie Mumm from Mill Hill
Mill Hill has a fun new series of 6 -- 16ct Aida designs garnished with Mill Hill beads. Designed by Debbie Mumm, this is a collection of darling penguins and polar beads playing around. One has the penguin sliding off the bear's back... someone is innertubing, someone else is skating... and two are hiding in packages!
At first we thought these were Christmas... but they really aren't... just all a cute Winter-y theme, we like the fresh blues, reds and greens in them. Presented as complete kit, you get the chart, fabric, flosses and glisteny Mill Hill glass beads. Finishing approx 5 x 5 each VERY cute, crisp, fresh winter-y designs!!!
New Glass Beaded Pin Cushions from Reflets de Soie
Oh my gosh, these are some of my very, very favorite things in the shop right now... GORGEOUS floral pin cushions (or sewing bag fronts) stitched on 35ct that are ONLY tiny glass beads and NO Cross Stitches! Everything you see are the minute French glass beads!!!! Stitched right from a regular chart, you use only a strand of white floss and stitch a half stitch over two on 35ct... putting on a bead instead of using a color of floss. Kind of like miniature oriental rugs... you are creating these beautiful patterns from a chart simply with glistening glass beads. Really 18ct in size, I suppose you could stitch these in floss... but you'd have to make your own color conversions from the beads.
Offered in chart format, the beads are pre-sorted for you. choose 35 or 36ct linen, frame them or make them into small cushions! We have stiff linens or softer ones... if you have a preference, let us know... we have shop models stitched on both and looks are not affected by fabric softness. It would only be that stiffer might be easier for you to work on.
He is Risen and No Place Like Home from Little House Needleworks
Little House Needleworks has released two new charts -- one for Winter and the other for Easter.
Snow Place Like Home

Band Samplers, Another New Re-Print
from The Prairie Schooler!
Originally published in 1993 this is book #40. I think it's fascinating to realize how many years ago some of these were published, and to look at them today, and know they are STILL awesome designs!
A trio of pieces -- measuring approx 6 x 15... each offers neat words of wisdom! *Plant your seeds in a row, one to eat and one to sow.* *Content lodges oftener in cottages than palaces.* *Tall oaks from little acorns grow,* Each one of these is charming... timeless.
New Treats from Tina and Teri of Shepherd's Bush!

The 12 Berries of Christmas, part 2 from Erica Michaels
We are enjoying pattern #2 of this 4-part set of delicious stitched linen berries by Erica Michaels! Following the famous song, Linda has designed a berry-shaped pin cushion or ornament for each of the 12 days. Worked on Weeks 35ct Cocoa hand-dyed linen, each finishes a generous 4-inches in size, and is topped with a smidge of Weeks hand-dyed wools in Lancaster Red and Juniper.
Calling Birds, Golden Rings and Geese are the featured designs... with the other six coming in March and June. (Join our auto-ship if you are wanting the whole set!)
Cherry Blossom Cottage
from The Victoria Sampler
Victoria Sampler has finished her 4-seasons set of seaside cottages. Finishing approx 5 x 5, you can stitch each of the 4 individually, with or without the border verse that surrounds. We were here discussing how unlikely it is that someone lives in a pink house on the water... but I bet SOME of you do! (and you are lucky!)
Anyway, special stitches, lots of luscious threads in the embellishment pack, choose just about any light blue fabric to stitch this onto... the whole series has been colorful, full of texture, and charming!

New Arrivals from AB Designs
Needle, Thread & Bits: A Notions Bag and Thread Roll Set from Bareroots
This is the cutest thing from Bareroots! NOT Cross Stitch at all -- you have to have a sewing machine or a really good friend with one to make this! Presented as a kit of the pattern along with all the felts and canvas, wooden spool, flosses and pearl cottons, ticking and even the super-heavy plastic for the little window... you will need a few pins and some metal from a tape measure (for the opener on the pouch.)
You'll construct the 10 x 6 x 2 Notions pouch out of the heavy muslin canvas-y fabric, adding the plastic window, lining it with ticking, and garnishing with the primitive-stitched words and tiny pink felt flowers. The top pulls apart -- reinforced with those tape measure pieces inside. Then, there is a Needle and Floss Roll (4 x 21) -- made of everything that matches the pouch, and finally the 2-inch wooden spool with a matching top pin cushion tuffet 2-1/2 inch square! (you can even make little felt-trimmed pins for it!) A super-cute set... it just caught my eye!

Cut out everything... whip stitch a little (they aren't even Blanket Stitches!) add a bead here and there... and you're finished!
About a year ago, Bareroots started compiling all the felts, flosses and any necessary beads into pre-packs for each of her mat designs. Now... you can get EVERYTHING in the perfect colors and sizes to make her little mats -- and the pre-packs are only $14.95 each! We love 'em! Spring 2017 Button & bead Kits from Mill Hill
The new kits for this year are HERE! Always favorites... these come as complete kits of design, 14ct perforated paper, tons of flosses and millions of Mill Hill glass seed beads, and a ceramic button. Finishing approx 5 x 5... you can use that paper in the kit... but we LOVE to stitch these on either 14ct Aida or 28ct Linen, so we can make them into little pillows to hang from your kitchen cabinet knobs (and other little places like that.)
Colors are always gorgeous with these... you can't go wrong for the value of these Mill Hill kits... we've been treated to Winter & Christmas, Autumn & Halloween, Spring & Summer designs for over 25 years now!!! I love the Carrot Patch, the goldfinch goes with last year's hummingbird and monarch, Fabric Shoppe is another in the springtime village of businesses (tea room, haberdashery, pet shop... there are a lot of these NOT Christmas), and Hydrangea is so pretty. My favorite, however, is LAUNDRY. How cute is that? Every laundry room needs this! But isn't it funny... do they even make soap powder in a BOX anymore? Nobody under the age of 30 irons anymore! My grandma had a washer like this... I remember the wringer... I thought her arm would go through there!
Spring Bouquet Bead Kits for 2017 from Mill Hill
The small magnet/ornament-sized bead kits have arrived! Cute and colorful, this is something like our 25th year for these little guys -- just like their larger kits. Six springtime designs... they companion the larger Button & Bead kits newly released. Offered as complete small kits -- a GREAT value -- you get the chart, all the flosses and beads, the 14ct perforated paper and sometimes a glass Treasure embellishment.
Blue Pansy Butterfly companions the miniature monarch we already have, Lotus and Trellis Eggs go with the bunny, sheep, daffodil and ladybug eggs we already have, the snail and lizard are really fun - they match last seasons funky fish and sea turtle... and the little seagull is just very traditional and really beach-y!
These are Needle Nanny magnetic pieces... each features the artwork of either Blackbird Designs, Lizzie Kate or Little House Needleworks... in miniature. Use them as needle minders, refrigerator magnets, or something to mind your notes on the filing cabinet at work. You might even be able to cling them to your stitching lamp and hold a pair of scissors! They're magnets -- you can figure out a million uses for them!
Just the best, because they bring your favorite bits of needlework anywhere you want them to be. Each measures approx 1-inch in diameter and features a pair of strong rare-earth magnets.

Serpentines and Rabbits by Premax
These are 3-1/2 inch embroidery scissors made in Italy by Premana. You'll recognize the Serpentine design -- the gold scissors. It's a classic pattern that a lot of different scissor manufacturers have used, while you probably haven't seen as many Rabbits around! (Those are the stainless ones.) Serpentines have a sharper point, the Rabbits -- not so much. Both cut nicely, they're pretty, and would be perfect in a pretty sewing case or on a neat fob. Not too expensive, they are GREAT as a nice, basic embroidery scissor... WAY TOO nice to let the *home handyman* near!!!

A Moment in Chalk Square-ology
from Just Another Button Company and Hands-On Design
We have received our final chart -- our December issue -- of this gorgeous design collection. TONS of different ways you could have stitched this... we began with the pretty square design in the center that promised that each moment of the year has it's own beauty. Next came each of the months -- delivered with a colorful 4-inch floral design. Small white enameled candle pans accent each of the individual months... but you could have been putting all these on one gigantic cut of material as well!
Many, many choices with this set... just know that all 12 months have now been released, we still have the central design... and all the fixings to make this beautiful piece!

Design sizes finishing approx 5 x 7, each is stitched with 99% DMC black floss and accented with simple striking colors in the design borders.
SO DARN CUTE... they are presented as complete kits of the chart, fabric, beads and flosses. Frames are offered separately. These ARE done on aida -- don't get hung up on that -- if you have a swatch of something else white in your stash, use it. The designs are darling, and will WAY overshadow the fabric you stitch them on! I LOVE the one that says *Don't stress me out!*
Scared Crow Beaded Fob and Sewing Case
from Fern Ridge Collections
Fern Ridge always does the cutest stuff... those girls are HUGE into little details and fun extras in their designs... and since they fully kit everything -- you GET all the neat beads and trinkets! Scared Crow is one of three of their newest sets. The Peyote Stitched fob is done with matte finish glass beads in denims, and grays, with a creamy background and shiny little pumpkin oranges. His head is actually a wooden bead, and his hat is a glass bead! All that lavish fringe along the bottom matches off the colors in the fob design.
The matching sewing case is stitched on Weeks 30ct Parchment linen with Dinky Dyes hand-dyed silks and silk ribbon. You get that little pumpkin waxer in the pic, and all the beads and buttons for the edging, you get the pretty lining fabric, a black raven charm... everything but the small pair of black scissors. The fob measures approx 1 x 2 with an additional 2 inches of fringe, the sewing case is about 2 x 3 when closed -- TOO CUTE!!! GREAT colors!
Check out the neat matching biscornu on the inside page!

A trio of cute new designs from Nikyscreations
Yummy New Velveteen Finishing Fabric from Dames of the Needle
We have 5 new colors of this dreamy backing fabric for your stitching projects. By Dames of the Needle, it is hand-dyed velveteen -- beautifully and softly dyed -- the overall feel of the fabric is heavy compared to cotton finishing materials. We have torn it into fat 1/8 yard cuts -- approx 10 x 17 in size -- so enough for a larger pillow or plenty for lots of smaller sewing case linings, pin cushion backings, box and tray liners, even the bottoms of pretty wooden bases and boxes.
VERY pretty, the new colors (shown from left to right) are Red Begonia, Dried Acorn, Dried Wine, Smashing Jack and Puff's Magic. Get 'em and even split these cuts with friends in your stitch group -- little pin cushions don't need much!
Winter By The Sea
from Jeannette Douglas Designs
Jeannette Douglas is finishing up her 4-part set of Seasons by the Sea... with Winter. This 12 x 12 4-cornered piece has been stunning... stitched entirely in silks and metallics, Jeannette has added tons of specialty stitches and the cutest charm embellishments. Each of the seasons can stand on its own... but together, they fit with a middle of blowing sands and rolling waves -- all executed in special, textured stitches.
Neat borders, cute little sea creatures everywhere, EVERYTHING about this 4-part piece is enchanting. It is stitched on 32ct Meadow Mist hand-dyed linen, which has been a challenge to get into the shop... but worth waiting for, Each of the seasons comes with its own exquisite thread packet of hand-dyeds, beads, metallics and charms... as luscious as all those seaside colors and sounds!
Pumpkin Patch Box
from Jeannette Douglas Designs
Oh my gosh, this is another of Jeannette's neat medley of smaller designs that can all be displayed together in a 6-1/2 inch square divided wooden shadow box/tray/frame! Pumpkin Patch Box features the Pumpkin Patch Sampler, a Corn Needlekeep, Pumpkin Pincushion and Pumpkin Field Scissorkeep. Stitched on 32ct, your main sampler measures only 4 x 6.. while each additional little cushion, fob and needlecase are another1-1/2 inches square each.
Gorgeous pumpkin-y orange shades of Gloriana hand-dyed silks, you've got some metallic in here, as well as a smattering of glass seed beads. Our leaflets are being offered WITH that thread packet AS WELL AS Jeanette's packet of Weeks Dye Works wools she has used for linings and backings of everything, and even a cut of ruler-ribbon that is featured on the backside of the main sampler! Everything fits into the same tray used in THE BIRD BOX design. The little box is an inch deep, so everything is just perched inside the compartments -- easy to switch them all out! (But who can pack them away and hide them?) So, so pretty, great colors, fun stitches, fig-ity little fun pieces... everything is CHARMING!!!

Linda has been busy working on Thanksgiving and Christmas designs for us, and I think you'll really enjoy her new things!
Homespun Elegance's Annual Snowman, Sampler and Santa 2016 Ornaments! And... Avery's Toy Express!
Sandra Sullivan continues her decades-long collection of small stitched ornaments... all are offered as charts and stitched with assorted hand-dyed flosses and DMC cottons. Generally 3 x 3 and worked on 30ct linens... these look good on most any neutral color -- just not white!
Avery is her grandson... his mom is collecting vintage airplanes to decorate his room... so Grandma made him an ornament with a vintage Santa in an old plane! Always cute... and nice on your tree.
Scary Two -- #2 in the Bowl Full of Scaries Serial Bowl Series
from Plum Street Samplers
Everything Autumn in here -- the black squirrel has his crow friend, and he's surrounded by lots of pumpkins and acorns -- so he won't go hungry. The second of the Scary Serial Bowls, this is presented as the chart with hand-dyed flosses all pre-sorted and tied on a little card for you.
The Vintage Chenille trim by Lady Dot is also included, so all you'll need for this is a bit of fabric you like with the floss colors. Stitch count is 90 x 66, so this makes a 3 x 5-ish cushion when finished.
All in a Row - #12 of The Garden Club Series
from Blackbird Designs
Barb & Alma are finishing this charming set of 4 x 4 designs -- all houses and flowers growing in the garden. All in a Row is the final design of the 12... and you'll notice it is stitched on 2 different colors of fabric! This has been a fun series, because they have used 6 or 8 different colors of Week's Dye Works Linen throughout and even SPLIT 3 of the designs onto two different fabrics (like this one is.) Then, they have sewn all the panels together to make one large piece -- 12 x 16 in size.
Pretty colors, everything about this set has been neat. We have EVERYTHING right now... you can get all the pieces and parts RIGHT NOW. Please don't wait a year or so to collect the patterns, as eventually some will go out of print! Some have finished each design into pin cushions -- a super-eyecatching bowl-filler display of your gorgeous stitching talents!!!
Thankful from Lone Elm Lane
Lone Elm Lane has a cute new pin cushion pattern that finishes just under 3-1/2 inches in size. Just 6 colors of hand-dyeds on a bit of neutral 16 aida or 32ct linen...it's just a nice seasonal something to have in your growing bowl of stitched lovelys.
NOW... check out her new Sewing Clamp Box in the pic! That is a new finishing piece, patterned after antique clamp boxes. The top has a 1-inch deep recessed area to frame your needlework. It's really a petite 4 x 4 x 4 box -- complete with a little pulling out drawer (can you see the knob down there in the pic?) THEN, the whole thing clamps to the edge of a table with a cool screwing pole on the bottom -- SUPER CHARMING!
Our first shipment of the boxes came in Stephanie's antiqued white finish. NOW, to muddy the waters... she'll make that awesome box in ANY of her 12 colors! (So those will be special order, 'cause I can't keep some of them all -- all the time! The 8-ish week wait will be worth it for you though, and you'll have to type your color choice into the comments box as you finish up your order if you want something other than the white!)
Pumpkin House from Chessie & Me
Chessie's annual house kit... this is charming!!! Stitched on 36ct Vintage Pear Linen by Lakeside, you are working with Gloriana silks of black, rust, mosses and golds, with touch of olive and champagne! (It might be closer to cream, but champagne could work as a description!!!)
Chessie is always over one thread, the whole thing finishes just under 3 x 4... Linda has about a dozen of these small kits, and we have, and love them ALL!
A Year at Hawk Run Hollow
from Carriage House
Carriage House's ninth in the Hawk Run Hollow Series -- this joins Houses, Village, Shores, Christmas, Autumn, Farms, Spring and Map of HRH! This design is made up of 12 -- 92 x 92 stitch count blocks -- each a tribute to it's month of the year.
Charted for DMC or silks, you CAN split all of these up and make them into individual pillows to fill that big bowl of yours. We see this one as perkier -- like Spring at HRH... a little more colorful than some of the order offerings. Presented as a chart -- it's a gotta-have -- the blocks are charming!
Needlework Enthusiast's 2017 Book of Days
from Needlework Press
Needlework Press's annual *Sourcebook & Agenda for the thoughtful and Enlighttened Mind* is here! Available till December-ish... this is a softcover 9 x 12 book that features a calendar of 2017 -- with spaces to write in each day. With fun needlework related artwork throughout, and sampler quotes and verses, use this as your stitching diary.
Log your hours, write in your stitch group meeting dates and stitching trips, schedule good shopping road trips, keep track of new stitching friends in here. Use it for your wish lists, use it to mark the beginnings and endings of special projects! By then end of the year, your Book of Days might be tattered and well-loved... and what a wonderful stitching memory it will make!
New Curly Girl Kits by Mill Hill
Everybody loves Curly Girl's whimsical artwork and her *wisdoms of life* advice! Mill Hill has a license to produce her designs in Cross Stitch, so six new designs have come our way. Presented in kits of 28ct linen, Mill Hill glass beads (not tons, just enough for a little glitz) and DMC flosses, these are over-the-top cute! Each finishes approx 7 x 7.
Bump N. D'Knight Farm from Praiseworthy Stitches
Praiseworthy Stitches has unveiled their annual Haunted House Piece for 2016! Here's a sneak peek! Such a wild collection of these gigantic houses... you need big, empty walls... or lots of holiday excitement (little kids are great at this) to enjoy the full impact of these! Bump N D'Knight Farm companions Witch's B & B, Darkwing, Croaking Toad and Ravenswood Manors as well as Seedy Pumpkin Cottage. 32ct Haunted hand-dyed linen by Picture This Plus is this year's fabric choice, and along with bits of bead and metallic (silver spider webs) embellishments, there is a set of clay JABCO buttons as well.
In looking at this... I think you could split the elements up a little if you haven't the space to display the whole piece -- or the discipline to stitch it all. Look at the main house with carriage and tree in front! Anyway, there is definitely something fishy happening in the bard on this busy Trick or Treat night! Approx 15-1/2 x 20 on 32ct... coded for DMC or hand-dyed flosses... you'll use a ton of thread! Ships around August 19.
New Treats from Kelmscott Designs
A lovely collection of needlework trinkets and gadgets, these all make nice stitcher gifts, they are fun to use, and look wonderful tucked into cases, keeps and shadow box frames.
Charcoal Mittens from Rachel's of Greenfield
Oh we love the felt ornament kits we carry by Rachel's of Greenfield! Primitive stitched felt ornaments... this is the 8th set that contains 6 designs... so there are TONS to choose from! Small 3 x 3-ish old-fashioned felt pieces, all you do is cut the shapes from the included wool, blanket stitch them together, and beautiful little creations are the result.
Remember the wool ornaments that used to hang on your family Christmas Tree? Here they are (minus the plastic sequins!) Gold string to hang them, full-sized cutting templates and all the correct sizes and colors of the wools, and flosses to add the small embroidery touches, these complete kits are good to go!
VERY cute, this new set features a charcoal gray background on mittens with red cuffs. They join *Warm Hands* (more mittens), *Warm Feet* -- which are mini-stockings, *Snow Folks* --which are snowmen (even a snow kitty and a snow puppy!) and the set of gift bag ornaments!
Several Luscious Scissor Arrivals by WASA of Solingen, Germany
What an exquisite treat we have in the shop!!! From the Solingen Valley of Germany, WASA is world-famous top-quality cutlery manufacturer -- a compliment to and competitor of DOVO! We have some new styles that we used to carry (but haven't been able to get for almost 10 years!) and some pretty new offerings!
Stainless steel, hand-forged, gold plating decoration, razor-sharp blades and tips, smooth and 'buttery' cutting action... just like our DOVO embroidery scissors... WASA delivers the excellence of German artistry you will LOVE! Each has the WASA name and Solingen embossed into the blades. Choose our Regular-sized leather sheaths for these -- not the Preemie/small size... the double-sized are OK... but a little large.
Wow... we have NEVER had this style -- our favorite Buckingham in this 5-5/8 inch style!!!! What a gorgeous pair of scissors!!!!!! The same pretty swirls --gold plated -- in the handles, the blades are razor-sharp and measure approx 2-1/4 inches long.
Very heavy and substantial feeling, they would be spectacular in a special sewing case. WASA and Solingen is embossed into the blades. Choose our Double Leather Sheath to protect this size.
Lighted Needle Threader
Well, if this isn't the coolest little thing! It is a wire needle threader -- with a protective snap-off cover over the wire -- that is attached to an LED light. Remove the plastic protective cover, turn on the switch for the light (it stays lit and you don't have to keep holding it at a strange angle to keep the little light on) The light IS AIMED at the wire threader -- so the eye of your needle is illuminated! You actually have a chance to SEE the hole in the needle to thread it!!!!!
We laughed when we saw this at Market, but I tried it right there in the aisle -- I had my needles and scissors with me... so this was tested before purchasing! It is just about 1-1/2 inches in total lenght, and has a hole so you can attach it to a cord or key ring. We think this is the ultimate baby-sized gadget!!!! What a fun thing to get all your friends -- and it's affordable, too!
Wooden Thread Boards from The Primitive Hare
We have a delightful selection of 8 different thread boards that have been lovingly handmade in Italy by The Primitive Hare!!! Here are three... but make sure to click the pic to see the rest! Something fun to tuck into a cool sewing case or sewing basket, each of these is a cut-out that has been painted (on both sides) in some way, and then distressed (on both sides).
About 1/4 an inch thick (they're much more substantial than your average thread board!), the whitewashed Mermaid measures 3 x 8-ish. The whitewashed Rocking Horse is about 4 x 5, and the whitewashed Sea Horse is about 3 x 5-1/2. Hand-Painted Santa's Sleigh Snowglobe IS about 4-1/2 x 5 and Hand-Painted Queen Bee is about 3-1/2 x 5. Tie a few threads through the holes, and JUST ENJOY having these!!!
Vintage Stitching Treasury by Suzanne McNeill
This 224-page book brings you hundreds (over 400) of patterns that have appeared on vintage linens since the late 1880's. After the lessons about which kind of artwork was popular in each of the decades, there is more history about color... then instructions about tea-dying and crayon tinting. I had not really realized the differences in the artwork till I studied this. Evidently the 1920s saw the birth of assigning household tasks to the different days of the week -- laundry, shopping ironing. Art Deco designs appeared in the 30's. Girls fighting the wind to hang laundry was 'the thing' in the 40's! This book is full of absolutely CHARMING artwork you can use for embroidery on towels, tablecloths, aprons... you name it.
The introduction talks about 'everyone who is lucky enough to have a small collection of old linens embroidered by mothers or grandmothers feeling the hands reaching across the years.' The pages feature actual sized patterns. You will have to trace to transfer and so can enlarge or shrink if you need to change sizes. (Unfortunately, these are not iron-on transfers.) We decided today, that these pictures would all make fun COLORING BOOK pictures as well! In keeping with the coloring book craze right now... here is another way to enjoy these antique, retro and utterly charming designs!
